Resumen:
At the Witwicky home in Portland, Oregon, Spike Witwicky's sleep is interrupted by a recurring nightmare. In this dream, he is fleeing through a mechanical jungle, trying to escape some mysterious force, but falls into some sort of pit. He tries to understand the meaning of the dream, but fails.
The next morning, Spike leaves for a ski trip with his friend Cliff Dietz, in San Francisco. As he heads out, Spike disposes of his Autobot Headmaster helmet in a junkyard, which he thinks is the cause of his nightmares. However, the helmet is soon found by Carnivac and Snarler, who have been sent by Scorponok to track and kill Spike. Taking the helmet, they follow Spike and Cliff's trail.
Though Spike is still haunted by his nightmare, he and Cliff eventually arrive at the ski resort. They hit the slopes and begin a run, but are ambushed by Carnivac and Snarler. Uncertain which of the humans is Spike, the Pretender Beasts attack them both, but the two flee into the woods. After eluding the Decepticons for a while, Spike and Cliff toss their jackets over a cliff in hopes of shaking them. It works -- the Decepticons follow the jackets' scents over the edge; their delay in climbing back up the mountain allows the humans some time to get away.
Spike and Cliff hide in a nearby cave, where they ponder their situation over a small fire. Spike tells Cliff about his experiences as a Headmaster, his nightmares, and the link he used to have with Fortress Maximus. Cliff suggests that Spike's nightmare may be about his rejection of his former self. Taking this advice, Spike drifts asleep and enters his nightmare once again. This time, however, he faces his fears and goes toward the source of his fright, and confirms Cliff's theory -- he has been eluding the part of himself that is Fortress Maximus, and they are linked even without the helmet. Spike wakes up and reassures Cliff that they will be all right; meanwhile, Fort Max's body exits the Ark (in Earth orbit) and heads planetside.
Just then, the Decepticons attack, but the two humans manage to leave the cave and get away. As the Pretenders begin to close in, Spike urges Cliff to follow him over the edge of a cliff. They do so, and land in Fortress Maximus' waiting hands. Undeterred, the Decepticons continue their attack; with some help from Cliff, Spike regains his control helmet from them, then combines with Fort Max and drives them off. With the danger past, Cliff and Spike leave the battlefield and head home.
Presumiblemente Spike se 'retira' como Headmaster cuando envía a Fortress Maximus de vuelta al Arca, ya que ambos no vuelven aparecer hasta el número 79.
